Riley and First Lady Patsy Riley were honored at a reception at the USA Mitchell Center. The governor told the audience that the growth going on in Mobile and Baldwin counties isn't being replicated anywhere in the United States, and that will help with future challenges. Riley said, "The leaders in this room tonight made it happen. The leaders that are going to have to determine what we do to re-build the tourist industry, the marine life, our shrimp production, oyster production. All of a sudden, you're going to have an opportunity that never existed before." Organizers put together a video presentation and came in person to recognize the Governor's work in areas like economic development. Congressman Jo Bonner of Mobile said, "The numbers tell the story: 152-thousand new jobs over the course of his two terms in office." And there were light moments. After leaving office, Governor Riley is planning to take a motorcycle tour of part of the country. USA President Gordon Moulton joked that he saw the governor recently at a Royal Street tattoo parlor getting ready for that tour. Moulton said, "I walked in and I said, 'Governor, what are you doing here?' and he said, 'You know, I'm going to take this motorcycle tour,' and he said, 'If you're out riding a bike like that, you've got to look the part. I already have the hair, but I got to get those tattoos now.' " Proceeds from the event benefited the Jenice Riley Memorial Endowment at the USA Mitchell Center Institute. The Governor's daughter died of cancer at the age of 33.
