“A tribute to an organ donor” |
| Posted: 20 Dec 2010 07:10 PM PST TUCSON - Meredith McCall will start off next year with a tribute to her brother, Jim McCall, in the Rose Parade. Jim died in 1998, when he was just 19 years old, in a motorcycle accident; but even though his life was short lived, his organs didn't go to waste. Jim's liver, heart valves, kidney, and corneas where all used to save 5 other lives. Now, the McCall family is finishing-up a "floragraph" in Jim's memory for a special tribute. The "floragraph" is a High School portrait, transformed with floral materials. Jim's mom, Cathy McCall said, "This is very exciting for us, and what a trip to see my kids on the float." About 6 months ago, Jim's sister, Merideth, was given a needed pancreas, and a kidney from a woman who didn't survive a car accident. Meredith was diagnosed with diabetes at 6 months old, and now the diabetes is gone. So life has come full circle for the McCall's, and they'll let everyone know the importance of organ donating, while riding a float in the 2011 Rose Parade. The McCall family founded the Lifedonor USA Foundation program that is based here in Tucson, which helps speed-up the waiting process for organ donors.
